Shoalhaven City Council actively supports people with disabilities and their carers. Following are some activities and initiatives occurring in the Shoalhaven:
International Day of People with a Disability is celebrated each year on 3rd December
The Shoalhaven Disability Forum meets bi monthly and the Shoalhaven and Jervis Bay Aboriginal and Disability Services Forum meet bi-monthly The Forums discuss issues of relevance to service providers, consumers and the community;

The Access Advisory Committee provides feedback and advice to Shoalhaven City Council on issues relating to mobility.
Shoalhaven City Council provides a range of printed information for Seniors. Included in this is information regarding services for Seniors and the range of activities that may be of interest for Seniors.
The Community Development Officer, Ageing and Disability, co-ordinates activities for Seniors Week each year.

The Community Development Officer – Generalist is involved in identifying the needs, issues and concerns of Children and Families in the Shoalhaven and may be of assistance in providing information and referrals to Children’s Services in the area.
Council supports a number of Children’s Services groups in the area and sponsors “Purple Ribbon Month” which aims to break the silence surrounding child abuse.

The carers nurture and develop each child's learning potential in small group settings, and cater for children from birth to twelve years.

The Community Builders Grant program is a State funded Community scheme made available to non-government organisations for projects that improve community well being and how communities function.

Safer Community Action Team (SCAT) is a partnership between Community, Police, Local Government, Industry and Business to increase Community safety, reduce anti-social behaviour, crime and the fear of crime in the Shoalhaven.
This partnership has produced the Shoalhaven Crime Prevention Plan and is currently working on the Nowra CBD CCTV project.
A Community Partnerships meeting monthly is attended by Shoalhaven City Council, Police, Local Business, and other Government Agencies. This meeting focuses on current safety and crime prevention issues in the Shoalhaven

The Shoalhaven Community Plan has been developed in response to the Government (General) Amendment (Community and Social Plans) Regulation 1998, which requires all Councils to develop a Social/Community plan.
