Each section of the program is structured into skill strands that ensure a balanced, comprehensive instructional approach
to a child’s aquatic education. Swim and Survive provides a pathway for ongoing learning and development through each
of the key life stages and is designed to keep children engaged, actively learning and, most importantly, having fun.
Program information
Wonder
(6-36 months) is our infant aquatic program with a focus on water familiarisation.
Lesson duration: 30 minutes
Ratio: 1: 6 - 8
Monday – Saturday mornings
Swim and Survive Wonder is a child-centred program which is taught with parent or carer and child together in the water.
Parents are an integral part of their child's aquatic education by providing guidance and support through activities that provide
for the development of water familiarisation, exploration and water safety skills.
Wonder uses songs, games and activities to teach children a variety of skills including entries, floating, breathing and movement.
Wonder has 2 to 3 levels that are arranged by age groups.
Instructors providing these classes hold the specialised qualification AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics™ and
undergo regular training and in-services.
Courage
(3-5 years) is our preschool program with a focus on water confidence.
Lesson duration: 30 minutes
Ratio: 1: 3 - 4
Monday – Saturday mornings
Courage is fundamental to the development of basic foundation skills in swimming, survival and water safety, as is a positive
attitude towards learning these essential skills.
Swim and Survive Courage guides children through fun and safe activities, gradually building upon their breathing, floating
and movement skills; supporting and encouraging independence. The Courage program progresses from initial parental
participation to children developing trust and learning through interacting independently with the instructor.
Courage has up to 5 levels that are arranged by skill level.
Instructors providing these classes hold the specialised qualification AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics™
and undergo regular training and in-services.
Active
(5-14 years) is our school aged program with a focus on swimming & water safety.
Lesson duration: 30 – 45 minutes
Ratio: 1: 4 – 8
Monday – Friday pm, Saturday am
Active is used to emphasise that the skills learnt in the program not only save lives, but provide a foundation for participation in a
range of aquatic recreation, fitness and sporting activities.
Swim and Survive Active is a broad and balanced program teaching a range of skills and knowledge to develop swimming and
stroke development, water safety, survival and basic rescue skills. Active encourages children to have a healthy respect for the
aquatic environment.
Active has 3 developing awards and 7 core awards to progress through. The initial awards focus on development of foundation
skills with the higher awards building on endurance.
*A complimentary assessment may be offered by appointment to all new enrolments or returning students following a lapse of
12 months or more to ensure correct level placement in accordance with skill.
Instructors providing these classes hold the qualification AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety™ and undergo
regular training and in-services.
