Provides environmental monitoring data for Council’s licenced waste and transfer facilities, as required by the POEO Act 1997

Licenced Waste and Transfer Facilities

Council owns and operates ten (10) waste and transfer facilities throughout the local government area. Five (5) of these facilities operate under Environment Protection Licences (EPL). The five facilities are:

Publishing of Environmental Monitoring Data for Licenced Facilities

Changes to the Protection of the Environment Operations (POEO) Act 1997, which commenced on 31 March 2012, require a licence holder (licensee) who:

Undertakes environmental monitoring, as a result of a licence condition to publish or make available monitoring data within 14 days of obtaining the data and /or receiving a request in accordance with requirements issued in writing by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) – section 66 (6).

Intention Behind the Publishing of Environmental Monitoring Data

The intention is designed to improve the community’s access to information about the performance of its industrial neighbours and make industry more accountable.

The publication or provision of environmental monitoring data will give the public access to the monitoring results of pollution generated, discharged or emitted from licenced facilities.
