How do I set up a food stall at the local markets?

The selling of food at approved markets and special events throughout the Shoalhaven is a rapidly growing and convenient method of food retail. The presence of mobile food stalls, vehicles and temporary food premises at special events and markets are a major contributor to their overall success. 

  • Step 1 is to talk to the event or market organiser about your business proposal and to obtain their approval beforehand.
  • Step 3 is to make application (PDF 260 kb) to Council and pay the applicable inspection fee. Once the application has been processed, Council Environmental Health Officers will conduct regular inspections of markets and events to ensure compliance with the Policy in addition to relevant food safety regulations. Council’s fact sheet on the Requirements for Mobile Food Stalls and Temporary Food Premises (PDF 27kb) is also available to assist proprietors when setting up to ensure that the food sold is safe for human consumption.
