The Shoalhaven Arts Board also supports the annual Black Cockatoo Art Awards to recognise the wonderful art that local Aboriginal people are creating in the city. This is in conjunction with NAIDOC week celebrations which are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The Black Cockatoo NAIDOC week art exhibition is held in July each year at the Nowra School of Arts, Berry St, Nowra.
