Volunteering

Shoalhaven City Council offers community members the opportunity to participate as volunteers in projects and/or activities that support social and environmental outcomes for our community.

Volunteers of any kind in any activity must exercise a duty of care, to themselves and others, whether imposed by common law or by the work Health and Safety Act and Regulation 2011.

This Policy identifies and addresses:

  • The duty of care imposed on both Shoalhaven City Council and Volunteer Program Workers; and
  • Those other circumstances where volunteer individuals and community groups undertake activities on Council land.

Regardless of the type of volunteer activity, safety requires everyone's participation. Shoalhaven City Council's motto is "Safety is everyone's responsibility".

Leisure Centres

Volunteers can assist in the running of Crèche’s during week days at both Ulladulla and Bay & Basin Leisure centres. Many parents are unable to attend swim or health fitness sessions unless a crèche is in operation. Volunteering in this way assists in making us a healthy community.

Management Committees

Management Committee volunteers are highly valued by Council and the community they work with, in managing community assets. As for most volunteers, the work they do is often not seen by the public. They work “behind the scenes”, orchestrating the practical side to community life such as hiring our public halls and facilities, ensuring maintenance issues are dealt with, and acting as a voice for their communities when liaising with Council.

Management committees operate for Community Halls and also Sports Grounds.
