Council is currently proposing to construct and operate a Resource Recovery Park (RRP) on Lot 342 DP 257515 Flatrock Road Mundamia.
This site, adjacent to the West Nowra Waste and Recycling Facility, is currently occupied by the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter which is owned by Shoalhaven City Council and operated by the RSPCA.
To move forward with the construction of the RRP, Council must first relocate the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter from its existing site to another suitable site. Given the age and condition of the existing animal shelter, and the opportunity that the site affords for the RRP to be located adjacent to the current West Nowra Recycling and Waste Facility, it was considered prudent to identify potential sites for a replacement animal shelter to be developed at an alternative location. A suitable site has been identified at 19 BTU Road, Nowra Hill (Lot 1 DP 227233).
19 BTU Road, Nowra Hill. (Lot 1, DP 227233)
This land is located on the southern extremity of the Nowra Bomaderry urban area and is owned by Council. This land has an operational classification under the Local Government Act, 1993 and has access to town water located along BTU Road. The land has an approximate area of 12.14ha but only 2.5ha (approximately 300m x 85m) is required for the animal shelter.
Access to the Site is provided via an all-weather paved access road along Nowra Hill Road to the site. The site entry is located midpoint along its western boundary on Nowra Hill Road. It is proposed to use the vacant, grassed and lightly vegetated, northern area on the site, to locate the animal shelter infrastructure.
Quotations have been called for the engagement of a Principal Consultant for design and approval of the proposed relocation of the animal shelter to the BTU Road site. Residents will be advised, as part of the Development Application (DA) process, when the DA will be placed on public exhibition and for further comment. It is anticipated that after approval has been granted, the new Animal Shelter site will be operational in late 2016.
