Each year the City recognises Shoalhaven's long serving Arts & Cultural Heritage volunteers with awards, including the Shoalhaven Arts Board's Outstanding Achievement Award and the Shoalhaven Literary Award.
Nominations can be submitted under the following categories:
Category 1 - Volunteers in the Arts and Cultural Heritage Sector
Category 2 - Young Achiever in the Arts
Category 3 - Outstanding Contribution to the Arts by an individual
Category 4 - Outstanding Contribution to the Arts by an organisation

Recently the Arts Board also introduced the annual Black Cockatoo Art Award to recognise the wonderful art that local Aboriginal people are creating in the city. This is in conjunction with NAIDOC week celebrations which are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.
The
2012 Shoalhaven Literary Award: Poetry
With an open theme, this competition invites entries of a maximum of 60 lines from Australian residents over the age of 18 years. First prize is $1000 combined with a two-week residency at Arthur Boyd's Bundanon artist complex on the Shoalhaven River, with a second prize of $300, third $100 and a $200 encouragement award for a resident of the Shoalhaven city. The
