Shoalhaven City Council actively works towards making Shoalhaven a great place to “live, work, stay and play”. Included in this vision is the aim to work collaboratively with the community to prevent, reduce, and manage homelessness in the Shoalhaven and improve the wellbeing of those who are ‘doing it tough’.

The Thrive Together Fair

Our annual Thrive Together Fair, which has run for 3 years, is one example of how we have been working to support our community members who are doing it tough.  The Fair was designed as a place where people could connect with financial, housing, legal, government, physical and mental health and wellbeing support from across the region, all under one roof.

Your feedback

Valuable feedback from our community about the Thrive Together Fair helped us to consider how we could better support people doing it tough to access the supports they need to thrive.

In planning how best to achieve this, we ran several small-scale events in 2023 that were located across the Shoalhaven, called 'Thrive Together Pop-Ups'. The events were customised to include local services specific to each area and allowed opportunities for people to socially connect, meet their local service providers and engage with the welfare and wellbeing supports closest to them.

Smaller events held in local community facilities with familiar people and organisations were well received by the community.

With the success of these small-scale events in mind, we will continue to collaborate with local service providers and community groups to run smaller local Thrive Together Pop-Ups throughout the year, rather than one large event held annually.

Thrive Together Pop-ups

The Thrive Together Pop-Ups aim to foster a sense of community and mutual support at a local level. Participants can look forward to a wide variety of engaging and enjoyable free activities, food, and giveaways in a supported environment.

The Pop-ups will form part of our future approach to supporting people doing it tough in the community and will continue as an ongoing partnership with community organisations and service providers in place of the annual Thrive Together Fair that have been held in previous years.
