What do the Crown Land Reforms involve?
To comply with the new requirements of the Crown Land Management Act 2016, Council must first assign a Category to the land, based on the purpose for which it was initially reserved. Crown Lands have prepared guidelines to assist with this process. The initial categorisation is submitted to Crown Lands for determination. Once the initial categorisation is complete, Council will draft Plans of Management for the Crown land reserves in accordance with the provisions of the Crown Land Management Act 2016. One of these provisions is that community engagement is conducted during the process.
What are Plans of Management?
Plans of Management are useful tools for managing community land. Plans of Management set out objectives and performance targets for community land and promotes active land management and use, including issuing tenures over the land. Council is currently writing Plans of Management for the Crown Reserves for which we are Crown Land Managers.
