Comerong Island Rd & South St - Terara - Pavement Repair

The Shoalhaven was declared a Natural Disaster Area 5 March 2022 after an East Coast Low and subsequent rain events. This had a major impact on our communities, causing rapid deterioration to pavements and roads. Comerong Island Rd & South St (between Millbank Road and Bryant Street), Terara was severely affected requiring necessary pavement repairs.

5/11/2024 - Request for quotation submissions closed on 30/10/2024. Council is currently reviewing quotation submissions.

Works are still anticipated to start early December 2024, weather permitting.

17/10/2024 - The last update is current. Further information will be provided as new information becomes available. 

1/10/2024 - The request for quotations has been sent out, for quotes from interested bidders. Closing date for quotations is 30 October 2024. Following this process council will select a preferred contractor. Works are anticipated to start early-December 2024.

9/9/2024 - The last update for this project is current. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available. 

13/8/2024 - Approval has been received from TfNSW and Council co-funding contribution has been arranged. Quotation from the panel of vendors will be requested in the coming weeks.

22/7/2024 - The last update is current for this project. Further updates will be posted as new information becomes available.

31/05/24 - Approval from TfNSW has been received, with a council co-funding contribution arranged. Following this, quotes from suppliers will be requested.

2023 Works history

05/09/2023 - Maintenance staff are undertaking weekly inspection of the road and actioning temporary road repairs as required.

31/05/2023 - Maintenance staff are undertaking weekly inspection of the road and actioning temporary road repairs as required.

06/04/2023 - Maintenance staff will undertake weekly inspection of the road and schedule temporary pothole repairs as required.

29/03/2023 - Temporary pavement repairs are being completed at this location prior to Easter (pothole repairs and large shoves).

24/03/2023 - Ground investigations and pavement designs have been completed and submitted to TfNSW. Tenders are ready for advertising pending TfNSW approval.

02/03/2023 - South Street: Major damaged section has been repair and works completed. Additional damages have been identified for repair. Sampling and testing investigations are currently being reviewed and submitted for Transport for NSW funding approval.

16/01/2023 - South Street:  Works to commence on 18th January 2023 with works taking 7 days weather dependent.

 

2022 Works history

02/12/2022 - South Street: Tender evaluation is complete with a preferred contractor selected. Works are to commence on 9th January 2023 once Greenwell Point Road is completed. With additional resourcing being acquired and certainty around contractor timing, Council can now focus on further remedial works and in a manner that won’t compromise their tender assumption.

25/11/2022: Further remedial works will involve undertaking temporary pavement repairs along South Street and Comerong Island Road between the intersections of Milbank Road and Bryant Street, Terara. The works are anticipated to start on the 5 December 2022 taking two days to complete,  and will involve minor pavement works to remove deformities/shoving followed by placement of asphalt to fill potholes and depressions. The works are a temporary measure to improve the road condition for local area vehicular traffic to safely traverse the road during the Greenwell Point Road works period.

Comerong Island Road is part of the next package of work.

Previous updates

  • 23/11/2022 - South St: Tender period has closed with the evaluation underway. Council has received positive submissions with an anticipated start date in January following completion of Greenwell Point Road. Council will be undertaking temporary pavement works prior to the Christmas Break. Comerong Island Road - Council are engaging geotechnical engineers to undertake pavement investigations.
  • 19/11/2022 - Comerong Island Road - Council are engaging geotechnical engineers to undertake pavement investigations to provide advice on repair works, prior to Tendering in February 2023. South Street - Open tender to deliver repair works has been issued with a closing date for submissions of 22nd November.  Works are anticipated to be completed this calendar year.
  • 02/11/2022 - Comerong Island Road - A open tender to deliver a Pavement Repair Program is expected to be called in December 2022. Road rehabilitation works will be completed along several sections commencing next year. South Street - Open tender to deliver repair works has been issued with a closing date for submissions of 22nd November.  Works are anticipated to be completed this calendar year.
  • 01/10/2022 - Works undertaken to date include re-instatement of roadside drainage with excavation of table drains and clearing of pipe crossings, several visits by Council's road patching crew to repair the damaged road pavement with placement of cold mix to accommodate local traffic movements has been and is ongoing.
