Penguins Head Road - Culburra Beach - Landslip Repair

The Shoalhaven was impacted by declared Natural Disaster 5 March 2022 after an East Coast Low and subsequent rain events. This had a major impact on Culburra Beach, with landslips affecting tracks and road deterioration. Penguins Head Road landslip and embankment damage is scheduled for repair works.

29/7/2024 - Landslip and embankment reconstruction works are completed. This project was funded by the NSW Government under Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

2024 Works history

18/7/2024 - Slope remediation works are nearing completion with piling and capping beam under construction at the landslip site. Drainage and roadworks on access track are underway with expected completion of repair works being 24 July 2024.

3/7/2024 - Landslip and embankment repair works are expected to take three weeks, weather permitting. Closure of the track for public access is necessary for community safety during these reconstruction works.

2023 Works history

26/09/2023 - Council will be undertaking further geotechnical investigation works on Monday 9 October 2023 to determine if further remedial works are required. Public access to Tilbury Reserve may be restricted for a short duration.

16/02/23 - Temporary remediation works have been completed.

2022 Works history

  • 22/12/2022 - Temporary landslip remediation works completed. Additional drainage works to be undertaken early February 2023.
  • 19/12/2022 - Temporary reconstruction works commenced Monday 19th December on the access road. The area will be closed to the public. Repairs to the access road are to be completed by Friday 23rd December with remaining works undertaken later in January.
  • 12/12/2022 - Design for temporary reconstruction work is complete. Works are scheduled to begin by 16th December 2022. There will be no access during construction.

  • 20/11/2022 - Geotechnical engineer investigation has been completed. Solution report for design is complete and ready for review by council.
