Yalwal Road - Mundamia - Pavement Repair

The Shoalhaven was declared a Natural Disaster Area 5 March 2022 after an East Coast Low and subsequent rain events. This had a major impact on our communities, causing rapid deterioration to pavements and roads. Yalwal Road, Mundamia, was severely impacted by these rain events resulting in planned pavement repair works.

The latest

12/12/2024 - Completed: Repairs have been successfully carried out and the work is now complete.

25/10/2024 - Works require temporary closure of Yalwal Rd/Cabbage Tree Lane intersection all day Wednesday 6 November. Detours will be in place. Final asphalt wearing course is scheduled to be done between Tuesday 5 November and Friday 8 November, weather permitting.

2024 Works history

3/10/2024 - Pavement asphalt wearing surface is scheduled for installation November 2024. Updates will be provided here. Subscribe to this page for updates.

13/8/2024 - Updated road signage is scheduled for week starting 12 August 2024. When confirmed, further updates on the scheduled wearing course and permanent line marking to follow will be advised here. Subscribe to this page for updates. 

15/7/24 - Temporary line marking, guideposts and guardrail have been completed on Yalwal Road. Updated Road Signage requirements are confirmed and on order (to be installed as soon as possible). The final wearing course is scheduled for Spring 2024. Permanent line marking will be installed shortly after.

04/06/2024 – The base layer of asphalt is completed. Temporary line marking, guideposts and guardrail are planned to be installed early July. The final wearing course (Stone Mastic Asphalt) is postponed until the ambient temperature increases substantially (between October-December 2024).

15/5/2024 - Despite the recent heavy rainfall through May, works have progressed relatively well with the heavily bound base layer approximately 50% completed. When it's completed, the asphalt wearing course will start, project completion is expected late June 2024, weather permitting. 

02/04/2024 - Contractor, Cleary Bros, have advised works are planned to start Wednesday 3 April 2024, weather permitting. Works are due for completion by end of June 2024.

20/03/2024 - Contracts have been awarded. Cleary Bros will be establishing to site in the coming week with scheduled start date Wednesday 3 April. Works are expected to be completed by end of June 2024.

 

2023 Works history

  • 21/12/2023 - Announcement: Some temporary patching work has been caried out with more substantial repair works planned to be delivered in 2024 when grant submissions are approved. The road will be maintained through December/January 2024.
  • 14/9/2023 - Council will be undertaking major pavement improvements between George Evans Road and Flatrock Road, including the intersection of Filter Road. Council is finalising funding approval from the Natural Disaster Recovery Arrangments as well as other grant submissions. Additional sampling and testing investigation work is underway. Construction date is yet to be confirmed.
  • 31/05/2023 - Maintenance grading is currently being undertaken on the gravel portions of the road.
  • 17/05/2023 - Maintenance staff will be undertaking road patching between Filter Road and Flatrock Road this week as part of Council's routine works.
  • 02/05/2023 - Maintenance staff will undertake weekly inspection of the road and schedule road repairs as required.
  • 29/03/2023 - Grading of the gravel sections of pavement is scheduled for completion prior to Easter (between George Evans Road and Flatrock Road).
  • 24/03/2023 - Ground investigations and pavement designs have been completed and submitted to TfNSW. Tenders are ready for advertising pending TfNSW approval.
  • 17/03/2023 - Waiting on Natural Disaster funding confirmation prior to going to tender.
  • 19/01/2023 - Sampling and testing Investigations for pavement repairs have been carried out to inform appropriate repair methods. Council is currently waiting for transport to approve the repair method before works can be Tendered for Construction.

 

2022 Works history

  • 21/12/2022 - Tender expected in February 2023 following sampling and testing investigations.
  • 09/12/2022 - Council is engaging geotechnical engineers to undertake pavement investigations to provide advice on repair works, prior to Tendering in February 2023. Longreach Rd Intersection works completed. Temporary repair works completed between George Evans Rd and Flatrock Rd.
  • 22/10/2022 - Council is engaging geotechnical engineers to undertake pavement investigations to provide advice on repair works. Council will then seek funding approval from Transport NSW to commence works. Works are anticipated to be completed this calendar year.
  • 10/10/2022 - An open tender to deliver a Central District Pavement Repair Program is expected to be called in December 2022. Road rehabilitation works will be completed along several sections of Yalwal Road commencing next year.
