Household recyclables that can go into the yellow-lid bin are also accepted for free at our recycling and waste depots.

Please note that cash payments are not accepted at our depots.

Complaints about recycling and waste depot operations can be reported by contacting council.

Buy-back centres

Your trash could be someone else's treasure.

Buy-back centres are a great way to re-home unwanted household items and give them a second life.

Items that the gate operator credits as re-sale worthy will be accepted for free!

Items we may accept include:

  • Furniture
  • Sporting equipment
  • Garden tools
  • Doors
  • Window frames
  • Bric-a-brac
  • Toys
  • Crockery

Due to safety reasons we cannot accept lighting, power tools or other electronic items.

Buy-back centres are located at the following recycling and waste depots:

Shredded garden organics (mulch)

Garden waste (or green waste) that is disposed of at our depots is pasteurised into a ‘mulch like’ product that is available to Shoalhaven residents for free.

  • Residents can load it themselves at no charge.
  • At weighbridge sites (West Nowra, Huskisson and Ulladulla) residents can request staff to load it onto your trailer for $12 (as per Fees & Charges 2023-24)

This is subject to availability of the machinery.

It is available at all depots, however supply is dependent on what we receive.

Community recycling centres (CRCs)

CRCs are free drop off centres for household problem waste and are located at all our depots and are open during depot hours.

Household problem waste includes items that should not be placed in either your red-lid or yellow-lid kerbside bin as they contain materials harmful to the environment. Some items placed in kerbside bins can potentially create a dangerous situation for waste facility and transport staff.

Household problem waste items accepted at all our CRCs include:

  • Aerosol cans (paint, butane and other accelerants)
  • Car batteries
  • Household batteries
  • Fluro tubes and light globes
  • Gas bottles
  • Smoke detectors
  • Motor oils (up to 20L)
  • Other oils (up to 20L)
  • Oil-based paints (up to 20L)
  • Water-based paints (up to 20L)
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Polystyrene - must be clean and white sheets (commonly found in electronic packaging)

Please note that only domestic quantities are accepted.

For more information see our community recycling centre guide.

The EPA community recycling program is supported by the NSW State Government.
