The first step to starting a new food business in the Shoalhaven is to contact Council’s Development Planning Section to discuss all the relevant planning issues involved and whether or not a Development Application is required to be submitted. They can be contacted on (02) 4429 3531.
The second step is to discuss your proposal with one of Council’s Environmental Health Officers. They can provide advice on the adequacy of the building with respect to the fit-out of the kitchen as well as general assistance with the interpretation of Council policies and the applicable legislation. They can be contacted on (02) 4429 3431.
Should a Development Application be required, several documents will need to be submitted to Council. One such document required to enable the prompt assessment of the application is a site plan showing the layout of the kitchen area. Council’s Food Premises Policy (listed under useful links) outlines the necessary requirements and will assist you with this aspect of your submission.
Once approved and the food business is ready to open, you will need to do the following;
- Arrange for a final inspection of the premises prior to opening. Contact (02) 4429 3431;
- Complete and return Council Food Premises Registration form;
