Threatened fauna
The Shoalhaven region is alive with hundreds of species of wildlife including many species of birds, mammals, reptiles and fish.
Our region is particularly rich in fauna species due to large intact natural areas and a wide variety of habitat types stretching from the escarpment to the coast, including the marine environment.
Threatened fauna species & endangered ecological communities

There are 153 threatened species and 16 endangered ecological communities (EECs) known to occur in the Shoalhaven.
Of the 153 threatened species 107 are animals.
Of the 107 animal species 90 are listed under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and 56 species are listed under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999.
There are 12 threatened marine species known to occur along the Shoalhaven coastline.
All 16 EECs known to occur in the Shoalhaven are listed under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and 11 are listed under the federal EPBC Act 1999.
Development applications are required to address impacts on threatened species and biodiversity in accordance with the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 requirements.

- Koalas
- Glossy Black Cockatoo
- Great White Shark
- Greater Glider
- Green & Golden Bell Frog
Lesser known species include:
- White-footed Dunnart
- Giant Burrowing Frog
- New Holland Mouse
- A range of Microbats
