Lids

Not all lids can go into the yellow lid bin.

Metal lids

Small metal bottle top lids.

These are too small to recycle separately. The sorting facility cannot extract them.

  • Dispose of into your red lid bin.

Metal jar lids.

Remove from the glass jar.

  • Recycle lid via the yellow lid bin. (Do not keep metal lid attached to jar when placing in the bin).

Plastic lids

Plastic lids left on containers can be lost inside the collection vehicle. Empty containers, full of air, can be crushed under the pressure of the contents within the truck causing the lid to pop off.

Small plastic bottle top lids

These are too small to recycle separately. The sorting facility cannot extract them.

  • Remove lid from bottle and dispose of lid into your red lid bin or
  • Remove lid, crush plastic bottle (to remove air) and place lid back on bottle. Recycle bottle and lid via the yellow lid bin.

Small plastic lids

These lids are commonly found on plastic jars, sauce bottles and detergent bottles.

These are too small to recycle separately. The sorting facility cannot extract them.

  • Dispose of lid into your red lid bin

Larger plastic lids

These lids are big enough to go through the recycling process. These include

  • Plastic lids of jars that are a minimum of 70mm diameter.
  • Large plastic lids from larger plastic containers eg: margarine and ice-cream

Remove these lids from containers and recycle via the yellow lid bin.

  • Plastic lids that are the same plastic 'moulded' into the container eg: shampoo

Lid and container can stay intact and be recycled via the yellow lid bin.

Pump pack and trigger lids

These lids are commonly found on handwash containers and laundry sprays.

These lids are often made of composite materials including different types of plastic and metal. They cannot be separated at the recycling facility.

  • Remove lids and dispose of into your red lid bin.

Soft plastic peel off lids

These lids are commonly found on yoghurt and tomato paste.

  • Remove these lids and dispose of into your red lid bin
