Call for Proposals - The Terra Within - Commission

‘The TERRA Within’ is a major exhibition, curated by Warwick Keen, to be staged at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery over October and November 2020 as a response to the 250th Anniversary of Cook’s voyage to chart the east coast of Australia. The exhibition will use a range of artworks across all media to explore the themes Impact and Survival. The artworks in the exhibition will be used to address the impacts of the past 250 years of colonisation and to also celebrate the survival of the oldest living culture in the world. The exhibition will seek to explore the differing experiences and perspectives, acknowledge the trauma, bring new and different voices to light and provide a place to celebrate the continuation of culture, knowledge and connection to country.

This ambitious project is integral to the 2020 exhibition program of Shoalhaven Regional Gallery and has the support of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee to Shoalhaven City Council. With a highly respected artist and educator, Warwick Keen, appointed as Curator this exhibition will receive significant attention both within the Shoalhaven and the wider community.

Artwork concept:

The artwork commissioned will be a major part of the exhibition, and therefore should have a strong narrative

with clear visual representation linking to one or both of the themes.

Individual and collaborative works are accepted as are contemporary and / or traditional art forms.

The Gibbon Foundation have provided $10,000 (incl GST) for the creation of this artwork. The commission is acquisitive with the artwork entering the Shoalhaven City Art Collection on conclusion of the exhibition.

The budget should include all materials, freight, artist fees, installation costs and any other associated costs for the production of the work.

Expressions of Interest open on 30 March and close on Tuesday 14 April 2020. A submission form can be downloaded here.
