When did this happen?
In term 4 of school (October to November 2015) completed before Callala Triathlon in December 2015.
In 2015 the 1975 public amenities, which were two separate male and female toilets were decommissioned and replaced with new public amenities with two single use accessible unisex toilets.
How did it happen?
Community Engagement was undertaken in relation to the proposals. Council met with and communicated with representatives of the Callala Beach Progress Association, the management committee for the Callala Beach Community Centre, and residents and patrons of the area. A Notice was also placed at the public amenity seeking feedback.
General agreement occurred regarding the replacement location. There is no perfect location when all factors are considered.
The location was chosen for the better good of
- overflow for patrons of the Callala Beach Community Centre. The centre caters for 140 person and has three toilets inside
- patrons of the beach
- hirers of the tennis court
- patrons of the adjoining park / reserve
A revised plan shows
- site location
- floor plan
- 3 dimensional view
