Shoalhaven Swim, Sport, and Fitness are pleased to announce a Bay and Basin Leisure Centre squad swimmer has made the Australian 2021 Olympic team. Paralympian Jasmine Greenwood has been swimming at the Bay and Basin Leisure Centre since she was a toddler and is currently under a shared coaching arrangement with Shoalhaven Swim, Sport and Fitness Coaches.
Jasmine Greenwood’s achievement is a testament to her hard work and commitment to the sport and staff are proud that the swimming programs available under Shoalhaven Swim, Sport and Fitness have played a part in her success. Jasmine has been a member of the Swim and Survive program at Bay and Basin Leisure Centre and the Illawarra Academy of Sport since she was young. When Jasmine progressed into the Squad Program at the age of 12, she met her Bay and Basin Leisure Centre Coaches Kimberley Norton, Gray Parkes, and Bob McEvoy, with Bob and Gray coaching Jasmine to her Olympic standard over the last five years.
Shoalhaven Swim, Sport, and Fitness are a Department of Shoalhaven City Council, consisting of state-of-the-art sporting facilities and a range of Leisure, Sporting, Fitness & Aquatic Centres across the region.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley was delighted to receive the news of Jasmine’s qualification into the Australian Olympic Swimming Squad.
“Firstly, I would like to congratulate Jasmine on her amazing achievement. This is a proud day for not only her family but also her Coaches Gray and Bob who are part of an amazing team at the Bay and Basin Leisure Centre,” Clr Findley said.
“This achievement also is a great reminder that the programs we provide the public are to an international standard supported by our world-class facilities,” Clr Findley noted.
“Every year we see more than 800,000 annual visits across six all-year-round facilities, including the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre, five seasonal village pools, two sea pools, and several professionally patrolled beaches, there truly is something for everyone regardless of age, ability, or motivation,” Clr Findley said.
Squad Training is available at five Council facilities within the Shoalhaven and is a great way to further develop your swimming skills beyond the basics and lead you into the competitive side of the sport.
