Council monitoring water levels at Tabourie Lake and Lake Conjola
Published on 02 April 2025
Council is closely monitoring water levels at Tabourie Lake and Lake Conjola, which are both rising toward their trigger levels for manual opening due to storm wash over from large seas.
At 11:30am on Wednesday, the water level at Tabourie Lake was 1.28m AHD and may reach its trigger level for a planned mechanical opening of 1.3m AHD, in line with the NSW Crown Lands Licence, on Wednesday night due to further storm wash over.
While Council is monitoring the situation, the hazardous ocean conditions are too dangerous for excavators to be deployed to the area at this stage and an opening would be ineffective while seas are so large as it would be quickly closed again.
The water level at Lake Conjola was 0.92m AHD before midday today, which is also nearing its trigger level for mechanical intervention of 1.0m AHD, in line with the NSW Crown Lands Licence.
Council is preparing to open Tabourie Lake and Lake Conjola later this week, should they reach their trigger levels and when the big swell and tides are forecast to abate.
A hazardous surf warning, issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, remains in place for the South Coast.
