Feedback sought on Coastal Management Program for major estuaries

Shoalhaven residents are invited to have their say on the draft Coastal Management Program (CMP) for the Sussex Inlet, St Georges Basin, Swan Lake and Berrara Creek areas.
The draft CMP identifies proposed actions being considered by Council to manage these important estuary areas over the next decade and beyond.
“It is important we hear from residents, particularly about the proposed management strategies identified in the document, to ensure they align with the values and visions of the communities in these areas,” said acting Manager Environmental Services, Shane Pickering.
“We know these areas are prone to a variety of coastal hazards, so it’s crucial we develop a robust strategy that helps mitigate the associated risks and outlines how and when each management action will be implemented, the associated costs, and potential funding mechanisms,” Mr Pickering said.
“I encourage interested community members to read the document and provide their feedback during the exhibition period,” he said.
The CMP is now within Stage Four of the five-stage process which has been prepared in accordance with the NSW Coastal Management Act 2016. The draft document has also been developed in consultation with the community, traditional owners and NSW Government stakeholders.
The community can provide feedback on the Sussex Inlet, St Georges Basin, Swan Lake and Berrara Creek Coastal Management Program via an online survey until 17 March 2025.
