Sod Turning to Begin First Sustainable Tourism Infrastructure Project

The first of seven eco-tourism projects is underway in Shoalhaven thanks to the funding from NSW Government’s Restart NSW program, Shoalhaven City Council and Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley said, “The $5.3 million grant from the State Government, along with $1.63 million of Council funding and a $80,000 in-kind contribution from the Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council will enable the tourism infrastructure projects to be completed within the next three years”.
"The improvements to Palm Beach demonstrate Council’s ongoing commitment to creating contemporary, accessible and attractive public spaces and amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy”, Clr Findley said.
“Other tourism infrastructure projects to be completed include; Plantation Point, St Georges Basin/Sanctuary Point – Basin Walk, Sanctuary Point/Bherwerre Wetland, Hyams Beach, Ulladulla Headland and Warden Head Walking Trails and Murramarang Coastal Walk Extension”, Clr Findley stated.
Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock said Palm Beach is the first of seven sustainable tourism infrastructure projects to be developed that protect the environment of a number of Shoalhaven’s most popular tourist destinations.
“It’s great to see these local tourism assets developed to increase visitor access and appeal and importantly protect their long term sustainability at the same time,” said Mrs Hancock.
“We’re pleased Palm Beach will be developed as the first project under the Shoalhaven Sustainable Tourism Infrastructure Package. These projects are very important for the future sustainability of tourism in this region.
“Work on Palm Beach will provide more access to Ray Brooks Reserve including a new pathway which will link the amenities building, the car park and the playground.
“It will also provide new BBQs and picnic shelters and a path connecting Ray Brooks Reserve to the Basin Walking Trail which will then continue along the foreshore providing a scenic foreshore walk.”
