Harmony Week celebrates culture and belonging

Shoalhaven unites to celebrate cultural diversity during Harmony Week from 20 to 26 March with the continuing message of everybody belongs.
The community is invited to honour the week with displays of orange – a colour traditionally associated with meaningful conversations adopted as the Harmony Week colour.
“Harmony Week is an opportunity for all communities to come together to celebrate the many cultures that make up our local community. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone,” said Mayor Amanda Findley.
"I’m looking forward to seeing shop fronts, doors and letterboxes decorated with Harmony-themed, orange-coloured decorations as well as videos and photos of events posted on social media,” Cr Findley said.
This year, local events include a family Harmony Day celebration involving live multicultural music, as well as dance groups, choirs and delicious food. Shoalhaven libraries will be helping families with young children celebrate by hosting story time and craft sessions for toddlers and pre-schoolers. Enjoy the community atmosphere of the Tomerong Village Market with multicultural food and music that can be enjoyed in a market atmosphere.
Events have been collaboratively organised by the Shoalhaven Harmony Week Planning Committee that involves Shoalhaven Neighbourhood Services, Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre, Shoalhaven City Council, Multicultural Communities Council of the Illawarra (MCCI), Illawarra Multicultural Services (IMS) and community members from multicultural backgrounds.
