Have your say on the Draft Currarong Creek Flood Study

Shoalhaven City Council is inviting community input on the draft Currarong Creek Catchment Flood Study. 

The online survey is now open for feedback from the community until Friday 28 May 2021. 

A community drop-in session will also be held on Wednesday 12 May at Currarong Progress Hall between 3.00pm - 7.00pm. The session provides an opportunity for the community to provide feedback in person and ask questions about the draft Flood Study.  

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Amanda Findley encouraged community members to provide feedback on the draft Flood Study. 

“The objective of this study is to improve understanding of flood behaviour and impacts, and to assist with the better management of flood risk.  

“I encourage those living in the Currarong Creek catchment to come and talk to us about how floods impact you,” Clr Findley said.  

The primary objective of the New South Wales Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy is to reduce the impact of flooding and flood liability on individual owners and occupiers of flood-prone property and to reduce private and public losses resulting from floods, utilising ecologically positive methods wherever possible.  

Council endorsed the public exhibition of the draft Currarong Creek Flood Study(External link) at the Central Floodplain Risk Management Committee Meeting on 21 April 2021. 

Council has undertaken a flood investigation after receiving financial support from the State Floodplain Management Program, managed by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE). The program support is $2 from Government for every $1 provided by Council.
