Latest on development applications
Published on 09 November 2022
It’s a fact that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased interest in Australia's regions. The “sea change” (and tree change) has never been more alluring.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data showed regional Australia experienced a net inflow of 43,000 people from the capital cities in 2020. That was the highest number since reporting began two decades ago.
Now, from the latest reporting period, 2021, the population of regional Australia grew by 70,900 people. A further 60% increase year-on-year.
Additionally, as a local government area in NSW, the Shoalhaven is second only to Sydney for the number of visitors annually.
This welcome demand for development activity across the city is exceptional.
Council’s focus is always to deliver a quality customer experience and achieve timely assessments and determination of development applications.
For your information, the standard timeline for DA’s is being impacted nationwide with an overall skills shortage of Planning and Assessment staff.
In the short-term, Shoalhaven City Council has established a support team to provide, should you wish, a point of personal contact.
