Nominations Closing Soon for the 2021 NAIDOC Awards

Shoalhaven City Council will mark NAIDOC Week, 4 - 11 July, by hosting a Morning Tea, supporting the NAIDOC Family Fun Day and partnering with neighbouring Councils for the 2021 Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards.
Celebrated across Australia each July NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The 2021 Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards recognise the talents, excellence, and significant contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations make in the Illawarra-Shoalhaven region, and will this year be hosted by Shellharbour City Council.
Shoalhaven City Mayor Amanda Findley is encouraging the community to nominate deserving community members.
“The 2021 NAIDOC Awards nominations are now open, with nominations being accepted across six categories. I encourage the community to nominate deserving members of the community by heading to the Shellharbour City Council’s online nomination form” Clr Findley said.
“The 2021 Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards are planned and delivered by Shoalhaven, Shellharbour and Wollongong City Councils and Kiama Municipal Council. An amazing joint effort, recognising the significant contributions by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make not just in our region but across the Shoalhaven and Illawarra as a whole.” Clr Findley said.
The following categories are open for nominations;
- Aboriginal Elder of the Year (male and female)
- Aboriginal Worker of the Year
- Aboriginal Young Achiever of the Year (male and female)
- Aboriginal Community Volunteer of the Year
- Aboriginal Organisation or Project of the Year
- Outstanding Contribution to Reconciliation (Aboriginal or Non-Aboriginal)
Online nominations for the 2021 Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards can be found on the NAIDOC Awards event page. Nominations close on Friday 2 July 2021.
Shoalhaven City Council will also be holding a Morning Tea to celebrate this year’s theme, Heal Country, along with a Family Fun Day at the Nowra Showgrounds allowing everyone to enjoy the festivities and to connect with NAIDOC Week.
