Shoalhaven Town Berry Awarded Gold as Top Tourism Town in NSW
Published on 20 May 2022
Berry has been named a Top Tourism Town in the 2022 NSW Top Tourism Awards ‘Small Tourism Town’ category at the LGNSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in Orange. Huskisson and Ulladulla also received highly commended in the Tiny Tourism Town and Top Tourism Town categories, respectively. Across the three categories, only one town per category was awarded gold and one town per category received the prestigious highly commended award (or second place) with Shoalhaven securing 50 percent of all titles awarded.
Berry is a friendly and historic town that offers visitors many activities and attractions. This includes a mouth-watering array of fabulous gourmet restaurants to award winning wineries, unique homewares shops and boutiques, as well as well-appointed accommodation. All provided by a passionate tourism community as highlighted today.
Six Shoalhaven towns including Berry, Culburra Beach, Huskisson, Kangaroo Valley, Sussex Inlet and Ulladulla were shortlisted for the second ever NSW 2022 Top Tourism Town Awards. Winners and highly commended were decided by judges and 25% by popular vote, with winners to go onto compete for the Top Towns of Australia title versus the other winning states later this year.
These Shoalhaven towns were shortlisted against 30 other ambitious New South Wales towns, all in contention for the top prize in the three following categories: under 1,500 Tiny Tourism Town, under 5,000 Small Tourism Town, and above 5,000 Top Tourism Town in population.
The NSW Top Town Awards powered by Business NSW showcases the value of tourism and the visitor economy to towns across the state by shining a light on the towns, people, attractions and experiences that make NSW a ‘must visit’ destination.
Amanda Findley, Mayor Shoalhaven City Council says: “Congratulations to our wonderful towns of Berry, Huskisson and Ulladulla for their gold and highly commended awards in the prestigious NSW Top Tourism Town Awards. We live in the most beautiful place and wish Berry all the best for the Australian Tourism Awards as they battle it out against the states. We are incredibly proud of our communities and businesses for their achievement and commitment to providing a welcoming and vibrant town for both locals and visitors to enjoy.”
