Shoalhaven City Council will again host a Threatened Species creative competition this September for school children to mark national Threatened Species Day on Saturday 7 September 2019.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley is looking forward to viewing the foyer displays by the school children and the important message of conservation behind the competition.

“In 2018, over 200 entries were submitted to the competition highlighting the 147 native species of plants and animals in the Shoalhaven that are currently threatened with

extinction. Threatened Species Day is a reminder to everyone that we need to be aware of our actions and activities in our own backyard to preserve local habitats and food sources for these amazing species.

“The competition is targeted to local primary schools with the aim of highlighting vulnerable threatened species of the region, and to encourage greater community support and hands on involvement in the prevention of further losses of Australia’s unique natural heritage.”

The competition entries will be on display in the foyer at Shoalhaven City Council’s Administration building throughout the month of September, with the winners announced towards the end of the month.

“We encourage all residents to visit the display over September to see the clever ways in which school children of the Shoalhaven creatively deliver messages of conservation in action.” Clr Findley said.
