Upgrade works begin at Danjera Dam recreation area

Danjera Dam is a popular picnic spot for both locals and tourists with upgrade works set to improve the amenity and access to the area.
Located in Yalwal, about 30km from Nowra, the access road to the secluded spot is now closed while works are being carried out. The project is scheduled to run until March 2024.
Rob Horner, Executive Manager, Shoalhaven Water, said it was necessary to close off the entire recreation area because the work includes widening the access road. An assessment will be carried out in early December to see if the recreation area can be temporarily re-opened for day visitors over the school holidays.
“We know families love to swim, canoe and fish at the area over the summer, so if it’s safe to do so, we will make access available to day-trippers over the Christmas break,” said Mr Horner.
“The comprehensive upgrade works could take up to five months to complete, but if we’re on track to temporarily reopen in the school holidays, we’ll be sure to let the community know,” he said.
The upgrade works include:
- widening of the access road
- landscaping
- three new picnic shelters with seating
- new car and trailer parking areas
- improvement of existing boat launching access road
- new signage
The community is reminded that Danjera Dam is not a camping area and is only ever available for day visitors. For more information on the works and road closure head to the project page.
