Nominate someone - Australia Day Awards now open

The Australia Day Awards are about celebrating local people and the different ways they contribute to our community and are part of the Australia Day Celebrations for 2024, organised by Shoalhaven City Council, in conjunction with the Australia Day Council NSW.

This year the following categories for nominee's are:

  • Citizen Award (25 Years & Over)
  • Young Citizen Award (24 Years & Younger)
  • Proudly Shoalhaven Award (open to individuals, volunteers, service groups and community groups)

     

Your nomination form must contain no less than 250 words to be deemed eligible for a $500 SEC voucher. 

Nominations now open and will close on Friday, 15 November 2024 at 5.00pm

Before submitting a nomination application, please review the eligibility criteria outlined below:

  • Residents who permanently live in the Shoalhaven. If residing out of the area, the service provided must largely contribute or significantly benefit the City of Shoalhaven Local Government Area. 

  • Persons who have previously been nominated but have not been awarded a Shoalhaven Medal or Australia Day Award (in the same category) are eligible to be nominated again. 

  • Individuals cannot nominate themselves. 

  • Individuals, associations or clubs may nominate a Candidate. 

  • To be eligible for the $500 SEC voucher, your nomination form must contain no less than 250 words.

What happens next

Step 1.Review of application

Once your application has been submitted, the application will be reviewed to ensure all relevant details have been provided. Please note, though contact details are not a required field on the nomination form, we will contact you to obtain nominee details so we can confirm their acceptance of the nomination and for the nomination to be deemed eligible. The eligible applications will then be reviewed by the Judging Panel in December 2024. 

Step 2.Who will decide the winners?

Entries will be considered by the Judging Panel whose decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 

The judging panel will be looking not only at the length or value of service, but also the quality of the service, including individual acts of compassion, generosity, bravery, ingenuity, creativity or professional accomplishments. 

Should a Nomination be received which is better suited to a different category, the Panel reserves the right to reassign the nomination to the more suitable category.

Step 3.When will the awards be announced?

Following the 2024 Local Government Elections, the date for the Australia Day Awards Ceremony will be announced.
